Mayor Bill de Blasio, speaking in strikingly blunt terms, said on Wednesday that the fatal police shooting of a mentally ill 66-year-old woman in the Bronx was “tragic and unacceptable.”
The woman, Deborah Danner, had a long history of mental illness, and Mr. de Blasio said the sergeant who fired the fatal shot had failed to follow Police Department protocol for dealing with the woman.
