Queen Elizabeth II makes Rod Stewart a knight

LONDON, June 11 (UPI) -- Recording artist Rod Stewart has been knighted and Downton Abbey alum Penelope Wilton made a dame by Britain's Queen Elizabeth II.

The BBC reported astronaut Tim Peake, cricket captain Alastair Cook, former footballer Alan Shearer, broadcaster Janet Street-Porter, TV presenters Antony McPartlin and Declan Donnelly, and actor Brian Blessed were also recognized for their contributions to British culture.
