Purdue University researchers discover widest crater on Moon

An enormous 124 mile-wide lunar crater believed to be at least 3.9 billion years old has been discovered by a research team from Purdue University, Indiana.

The crater dubbed Earhart was spotted during an analysis of data from NASA's Gravity Recovery and Interior Laboratory (GRAIL). The research team spotted the crater when it was testing a new technique that sharpens the GRAIL data.
