President Obama hosts a screening of 'Selma' at the White House

According to People magazine on Jan. 17, President Barack Obama hosted a private screening of "Selma" on Friday night. Oprah Winfrey and Common were among the cast and crew who joined the President of the United States and First Lady Michelle Obama just a day before the First Lady's 51st birthday. The screening of "Selma" at the White House comes just a day after the movie received only two Oscar nominations and a day after the birthday of Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr.

Fans believed David Oyelowo would have gotten a nomination for his portrayal as Martin Luther King Jr., as well director Ava DuVernay, who would have become the first black woman to receive a Best Director Oscar nomination.
