Pope Visits Turkey as Mideast Christians Flee Violence

Pope Francis, the spiritual leader of the world’s 1.2 billion Roman Catholics, arrived in Ankara on a three-day visit for talks with the Turkish government and church officials.

The pope is expected to use his visit to push for regional peace after months of turmoil caused by Islamic State militants in Iraq and Syria sent thousands of Christians and members of other minorities fleeing to neighboring countries. Turkey is home to around 1.6 million refugees.
