JERUSALEM—Pope Francis is bringing to a close an extraordinary trip that was billed before his departure as a spiritual visit to the Middle East but has swiftly been overtaken by politics, ending the visit Monday with a series of gestures for his Israeli hosts a day after launching a surprise peace initiative.
