Polio Virus Found in Brazil, WHO Says Risk of Spread Low

Brazil could be hosting the World Cup together with the Polio Virus. Polio virus has been found in Brazil for the first time in 20 years. The last time the virus was reported in 1994. On Monday, the World Health Organization announced that the virus was confirmed in a sewage sample obtained from Viracopos International Airport near Campinas, in the southeastern Brazil.

The virus strain identified in Brazil is similar to another strain found in Equatorial Guinea. So far, no case of symptoms of Polio has been reported.
