Philippine Rebel Group Abu Sayyaf Frees Malaysian Police

MANILA—Philippine rebel group Abu Sayyaf has released a Malaysian police officer after abducting and holding him captive for eight months, the Philippine military said Saturday.

“Civilian informants in Sulu reported to the AFP at 1130 a.m. [local time] today [March 7, 2015] that the Abu Sayyaf Group has released Malaysian police kidnap victim Zakia Aliep, ” military spokesman Lt. Col. Harold Cabunoc said in a statement.
