Philae lander battery runs out, but not before sending back comet data and spectacular photos

After a dramatic descent, and a landing that saw it bounce twice before finally coming to rest on the surface, Philae found itself parked under a cliff that is preventing its solar panels from recharging the battery. Despite the disappointment, the European Space Agency reported that Philae sent back all the data it had gathered before its battery ran out.
