Pathogenic avian influenza hits a flock of 40,020 turkey farm in Arkansas

Health officials in Arkansas have confirmed that the “H5N2 highly pathogenic avian influenza” has hit a commercial turkey farm containing about 40,020 turkeys in Arkansas, raising concerns about the safety of the other bird populations.

This is a highly contagious bird flu strain that could potentially cause havoc in any commercial turkey flock, said Ed Curlett, the spokesman for the US Agriculture Department.
