In what seemed like a last act of desperation, the prime suspects in Wednesday’s attack in Paris fired shots at French police as the massive dragnet closed on them and holed up in a factory northeast of the city, close to Charles de Gaulle Airport, with at least one hostage.

French officials offered few official details. But all signs pointed to an imminent climax in what has been a gruelling two-day chase for the armed men.
