Panel's findings fuel renewed attacks on asteroid plan

WASHINGTON — A NASA advisory panel's conclusion that the agency should scrap its controversial plan to corral an asteroid into orbit around the moon provided fresh ammunition Thursday to Republicans in Congress who have been saying the same thing.

"Why isn't the administration following its own experts' advice?" Texas GOP Rep. Lamar Smith demanded of NASA Administrator Charles F. Bolden Jr. during a House Science, Space and Technology subcommittee hearing. "I wish you would heed them and do what they recommend."
