UNITED NATIONS, Sept. 29 (Xinhua) -- As the UN general debate entered its fifth day here on Monday, many countries have lent their backing to Palestine's bid to end Israeli occupation of the West Bank and achieve its statehood, despite Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu's comparison of Hamas to "ISIS".

World leaders also condemned the 50-day summer offensive by Israel on what it said were Hamas-linked targets in Gaza. More than 2,100 Palestinians were killed, the vast majority civilians, according to the UN figure. Israel lost 66 soldiers and six civilians.
