Painkillers, sedatives biggest threat when kids get into medicine chest

NEW YORK (Reuters Health) - When kids under age six are hospitalized for accidentally taking prescription medications, in many cases they’ve gotten hold of narcotic painkillers and benzodiazepine sedatives, according to a new study.

“All medications should be kept out of the reach and sight of young children,” said lead author Maribeth C. Lovegrove of the Division of Healthcare Quality Promotion at the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention.
