Hamburg warned that if drugs are approved without proper testing and vetting, they could put patients at risk.

In a speech aimed at answering her critics as she steps down after six years, U.S. Food and Drug Administration chief Dr. Margaret Hamburg defended the drug approval standards that were heavily criticized under her watch.
