It appears that "Boyhood" and "Birdman" are determined to add a touch of suspense to the 2015 Oscars after all. This year's acting races might be all but decided, but going into last weekend the two best-picture frontrunners were in a heck-and-neck race for top honors at Feb. 22's mother of all award shows. After trading blows over the weekend, they're as closely matched as ever.
Saturday night, director Alejandro Gonzalez Inarritu's "Birdman" took home the top prize at the Directors Guild Awards -- a major Oscar indicator. Then, one day later, Richard Linklater's "Boyhood" made a statement of its own, taking home the trophies for best director and best film at the BAFTAs.
