Oscars 2015: 'Birdman,' 'Boyhood,' eight others earn PGA nominations, gain award-season momentum

With a week and a half before the Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Sciences unveils its 2015 Oscar nominees, producers of "American Sniper," "Birdman," "Boyhood," "Gone Girl," "Grand Budapest Hotel," "The Imitation Game," "Nightcrawler," "The Theory of Everything" and "Whiplash" just saw their respective stocks rise. Those 10 films were nominated today (Jan. 5) for the Producer's Guild of America's top award.

The PGA award, formally know as the Darryl F. Zanuck Award, has built a name for itself over the past two and a half decades as a major Oscar indicator. The winner of the award has gone on to win the best-picture Oscar in 18 of the past 25 years.
