Orphaned Dalmatian Pelican chick now under the care of San Diego Zoo

A young Dalmatian pelican (Pelecanus crispus) chick which has surfaced out of its eggshell 11 days ago, now found a sanctuary in the San Diego Zoo Safari Park’s Avian Propagation Center. Unfortunately the young pelican’s parents under the care of North American breeding weren’t able to nurture it shortly after it hatched.

The baby predatory chick is in top shape and gorges its meals comprised of fish with zest and gusto.
