Onondaga county health department issues advisory on Lyme disease and outdoor ticks

Following several incidences of Lyme disease this year, the Onondaga County Health Department warns residents in Syracuse, New York, and the surrounding areas to be aware of ticks when they step outdoors and to take effective precautions against being bitten by ticks.

Lyme disease is an acute inflammatory disease that is characterized by a rash with joint swelling and fever; it is caused by bacteria carried by the bite of a deer tick.
