Ocean waters acidification poses serious threat to Alaska

As oceans typically soak up nearly a third of the CO2 released into the atmosphere, their acidification resulting from carbon dioxide release into the air could put fisheries and communities in Alaska at risk, a new study finds.

The report published in the online journal Progress in Oceanography explains that increased ocean acidification could make it harder for red king crabs and other mollusks to build skeletons or shells.
