Obama: Goal of Hiroshima visit is to refocus on abolishing nukes

U.S. President Barack Obama said his visit to Hiroshima on May 27 is intended to highlight the horrors of war as a way to refocus attention on the importance of working toward a nuclear-free world.

In written responses to an exclusive interview with The Asahi Shimbun on May 26, Obama stressed the significance of his visit to Hiroshima, the first by a sitting president of the United States, which dropped an atomic bomb on the city in 1945.
