Obama approves more aggressive attack against Taliban: WSJ

WASHINGTON: President Barack Obama approved a request from his Afghanistan war commander to more aggressively attack Taliban fighters as the militant group regains strength more than 15 years after the U.S. first invaded the country.

Mr. Obama authorized the use of limited airstrikes against the Taliban and loosened some rules allowing U.S. troops to accompany conventional Afghan forces, lifting some of the restrictions that military commanders said have hamstrung them in their fight against the Taliban.
