NYS reviewing retailers' scheduling policies

New York's top legal official is examining whether 13 major retailers require employees to be available for short-notice work shifts and at times be told to stay home from a scheduled shift with little advance warning.

Attorney General Eric Schneiderman's staff sent letters Friday notifying Gap, Target, Sears and 10 other retail chains after receiving reports that the companies are using a practice known as on-call scheduling, which could violate a New York law.
