NOAA Declares 20 Coral Species as Threatened

The National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration (NOAA) has listed 20 coral species as 'threatened,' under the Endangered Species Act of 1973. Fifteen of the corals are in the Indo-Pacific and five in the Caribbean. The agency looked for 66 species to be listed but they listed only 20 species because of many reasons and none of the species was listed as endangered. The federal government is protecting the 20 types of coral species by putting them on the list of threatened species.
