Performing coronary artery bypass grafting (CABG) without cardiopulmonary bypass has short-term -- but not longer-term -- benefits for kidney function, a subanalysis of the CORONARY trial showed.

The risk of acute kidney injury within the first 30 days was lower with off-pump versus on-pump procedures (17.5% versus 20.8%, relative risk 0.83, 95% CI 0.72-0.97), according to Amit Garg, MD, PhD, of the London Health Sciences Center in Ontario, and colleagues.
