NJ Transit announced a proposed fare hike Monday that would increase the cost of riding trains and buses in New Jersey by an average of 9 percent. If implemented, the hike would increase the cost of a monthly bus pass between Fair Lawn and Port Authority Bus Terminal by $14, to $167, for example; a monthly train pass between Clifton and Hoboken also would rise by $14, to $170.
