New York orders retailers to stop selling store-brand supplements

New York Attorney General Eric Schneiderman has ordered GNC Holdings Inc., Target Corp., Wal-Mart Co., and Walgreens Inc. to stop selling store-brand herbal supplements, after DNA tests showed that these supplements don’t usually contain the ingredient advertised.

Schneiderman has requested that the companies provide information about how their supplements — such as ginseng, St. John’s wort, echinacea and garlic—are processed.
