Amyotrophic lateral sclerosis—also known as Lou Gehrig’s Disease—caught a lot of attention this year thanks to the “Ice Bucket Challenge” which improved not only awareness but also fundraising efforts for the still somewhat obscure neurological condition. It is a progressive and fatal disease which deteriorates the brain, spine, and muscular system of the body.

Researchers at the Cedars-Sinai Board of Governors Regenerative Medicine Institute, however, have been working on divining the cause and potential treatment of the condition. A recent study actually indicates that brain damage could start earlier than the originally believe.
