SILVER SPRING, Md. -- Eslicarbazepine acetate (Aptiom) has been approved by the FDA for adjunctive treatment of partial seizures, the agency said Friday.

The agent is a prodrug for S(+)-liscarbazepine, which is the active metabolite of an existing seizure medication, oxcarbazepine (Trileptal).
