New Method to read Text inside Charred Scrolls of Pompeii developed

Scientists have recently announced that a sophisticated form of X-ray scan has made it possible to read ancient scrolls fused into brittle sticks of charcoal by the volcano that destroyed the ancient city of Pompeii. It has been long thought that there is no way to gain insight into the so-called Herculaneum scrolls, which had a carbonization effect from hot gases from Mount Vesuvius almost 2,000 years ago, but the scrolls were not destroyed.

However, the new technique has opened doors for researchers to decipher the text inside hundreds of rolled-up scrolls known to form a large part of the only surviving library from classical times.
