According to researchers some newly discovered animal fossils have helped them in solving age-old riddles concerning the common ancestor for the horse, the rhino and the tapir and some other animals.
The researchers said that a group of animals called Perissodactyla lived on planet Earth around 56 million years ago. The "odd-toed" ungulate belonged to this group - any animal with odd-numbered toes on their rear feet - but we do not have enough fossil record for the animals of this group.
