The United States Food and Drug Administration (FDA) approved many drugs in 2014 which is the highest approval rate in 18 years. Most drug approvals were made to provide new treatments for rare diseases and cancers.
According to Reuters, 41 new medicines were approved by the FDA in 2014, whereas it approved 27 medicines in 2013. Moreover, 82 new drugs were approved by the European Medicines Agency this year, which was up from 79 in 2013 and in 57 in 2012.
