California State lawmakers have plans to raise the legal smoking age in the state from 18 to 21 and limit the access of tobacco products to teens. According to them, the change will help reduce smoking rates overall as well as cut down health care costs linked with usage of tobacco.

Recently, a WalletHub report pointed out that Californians who smoke spend to the tune of $23 billion for direct health care costs and lost productivity combined.
