New antibiotic could be key to defeating superbugs caused by resistance

With the threat of antibiotic resistance looming, a team of researchers has described a new antibiotic capable of killing a wide range of bacteria, which has no detectable resistance. The findings, published in Nature, could be key to defeating the superbugs caused by antibiotic resistance.

Nature is filled with its own system of checks and balances, and for every ‘superbug‘ that is out there, another microbe has likely evolved some natural defense against it. Indeed, most antibiotics were discovered by screening cultivable soil microorganisms.
