Pediatricians have seen a steady increase in anterior cruciate ligament (ACL) injuries in young athletes over the past 20 years as kids push themselves harder and train more intensively -- and with increased use of medical imaging that reveals ligament damage. But determining how to treat such injuries, which often lead to knee arthritis a decade or two later, can be tricky.
