According to a report from NASA and the Jet Propulsion Laboratory, the Mars rover Opportunity’s flash memory is failing due to numerous resets. NASA scientists report that the rover’s flash memory needs a reformatting because the frequent resets prevent Opportunity from doing its job.
The Opportunity, launched in 2003 following the Spirit rover, requires several days recovery time when it resets. Last month, it reset dozens of times. Thus, the NASA team will do a complete reformat.
