NASA’s MESSENGER Spacecraft near End of its Operational Life

The National Aeronautics and Space Administration's (NASA) spacecraft MESSENGER (MErcury Surface, Space ENvironment, GEochemistry, and Ranging) had entered orbit around planet Mercury about four year ago. The spacecraft has sent more than over 260,000 images and helped scientists learn several things about the planet and its atmosphere. Now, the spacecraft is nearing the end of its operational life.

According to reports, fuel reserves of the spacecraft are nearly depleted and MESSENGER will only be able to maintain its orbit around the planet until the end of first month of 2015.
