NASA Ready For The Close Encounter With Comet Siding Spring

This Sunday, October 19th, the space agency NASA is fully prepared with trained number of its science assets for the Comet Siding Spring (comet C/2013A1), including three Mars orbiters (Mars Odyssey, the Mars Reconnaissance Orbiter, and the MAVEN spacecraft), two Mars rovers, and a suite of telescopes. NASA’s Compact Reconnaissance Imaging Spectrometer for Mars (CRISM) and two other imaging systems will capture data from Siding Spring.

The comet will pass within 87,000 miles (139,500 kilometers) of Mars and is said to be closest to Mars at 2:27 p.m. EDT.
