New Zealand has started vote counting after a general election that opinion polls show could hand Prime Minister John Key a third term in government.

With 20 percent of booth results in, Key’s National Party was leading on 48.5 percent compared with 23.8 percent for the main opposition Labour Party, according to the Electoral Commission’s website. Preliminary results from all polling stations are likely to be known by 11:30 p.m.
