This past weekend's Rock and Roll Hall of Fame inductions struck a chord with me. Among the honorees was Green Day, a relatively modern reflection of a punk-rock band in that the trio plays short, fast, loud songs that are imminently hummable and offend only those who still blush upon hearing the F-word.
Is Green Day tuneful? Very much so. Successful? No doubt. Pioneering? Mainly in finding the exact point on the attitude scale that maximizes "edgy" before reaching "objectionable."
