Life across the Kashmir Valley came to a standstill on Friday due to a strike called by separatist organizations to protest against Prime Minister Narendra Modi's visit. On his first visit to the state after becoming PM, Modi inaugurated a Katra-Udhampur-Delhi rail link, which connects the Vaishno Devi shrine with rest of the country.

Ahead of the visit, there was tight security in Katra. The PM was accompanied by J&K CM Omar Abdullah and Railways Minister D V Sadananda Gowda. In his speech, Modi said the new train should be named 'Shreeshakti Express' and that the state's development would never be stalled.
