Mitochondria were initially energy parasites: study

Mitochondria, which are ubiquitous throughout the plant and animal kingdom, were initially energy parasites, according to a new study by researchers at the University of Virginia.

Eukaryotic cells contain mitochondria, which provide the cells with adenosine triphosphate as a source of energy. Thus, mitochondria are beneficial to the plant and animal lives.
