President Barack Obama on Friday unveiled an initiative to train military veterans for careers in the solar-energy industry, as part of an initiative to combat climate change. Under the Solar Ready Vets Program, the Department of Defense and the Department of Energy will seek to help military veterans learn skills that are needed to work in the industry after they leave the armed forces.
The U.S. Department of Energy will be training 75,000 people to take part in the solar power industry by 2020. The new goal was touted by Obama, hoping to bolster the economy and help meet the White House’s climate change goals.
