Michigan has 25 cases of severe respiratory virus, including child with paralysis

LANSING, Michigan — Federal health officials have confirmed 25 cases of a severe respiratory illness in Michigan, including a young child that developed lower extremity paralysis.

The Michigan Department of Community Health announced Tuesday it has been notified by the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention about the positive tests for enterovirus 68. The paralysis case involves a child under the age of 1 from Washtenaw County.
