The researchers had sent a letter to United States Army Corps of Engineers on June 6 requesting more time to move the stationary, animals out of harm's way but their request has been rejected.

Susan Jackson, a spokeswoman for the corps, said that the taxpayers would be paying $50,000 to $100,000 a day to keep that dredge on standby and this is not feasible.
