Mexico Offers Reward, Takes Over Towns In Effort To Find Missing Students

The Mexican government Monday offered a reward of 1.5 million pesos ($111,000) for information on the whereabouts or captors of 43 university students missing sfor nearly a month. The announcement comes as Mexican federal police took control of 13 towns in southern Mexico as part of stepped-up efforts to find the students, whose disappearances sparked widespread anger and protests throughout the country.

Pressure has been mounting on the government of President Enrique Pena Nieto to locate the students, who went missing after a police shootout in Mexico’s Guerrero state on Sept. 26.
