Melting glaciers could trigger volcanic activity, new study suggests

Melting ice sheets could trigger volcanic activity and cause sea levels to rise faster than expected, scientists say.

A new study published this month in the journal Earth and Planetary Science Letters says that the melting of ice sheets in Antarctica is deforming the Earth’s crust, a situation which could trigger volcanic activity and cause sea levels to rise much faster than predicted.
