Medtronic's artery-clearing balloon wins FDA approval

Medtronic Inc. has received U.S. regulatory approval to sell a drug-coated balloon that clears clogged leg arteries, the company said Monday.

The In.Pact Admiral device treats peripheral artery disease, a condition caused by the build-up of plaque along blood vessel walls. The In.Pact balloon treats the condition by inflating inside an artery and releasing a drug that prevents re-narrowing.
