Measles case raises questions on Elgin Community College campus

A day after health officials announced that an Elgin Community College student is among the people diagnosed with measles in Northern Illinois, microbiology professor Donna Garcia said her students are seeing the practical value of learning about viruses and how anti-virus vaccines work.

"I've had some students ask questions, Garcia said Wednesday. "They're concerned because, thanks to widespread vaccination, they haven't seen cases of measles lately. But I don't think they're worried."
