It started in October, when he and the post-production team locked picture on the final episodes of Mad Men (the AMC drama as famous for its ad-man Don Draper as it is for Weiner, the meticulous creator behind it) and he began the “really painful” process of moving out of his office and away from the show he created. In February he was a juror at the Berlin Film Festival, which was “an incredible experience, totally different from anything,” like a return to film school after two decades ensconced in TV. But then the promotional process for the end of Mad Men began—photo ops, giant parties—and he fell right back into it, reuniting with the cast and crew and anticipating how the world will react to the final seven episodes, the first of which airs on Sunday.
